Women take home the win and the Men nearly cause a mighty upset

With the start of September come two inevitables... the summer is almost over and Bath host their annual 8s tournament.

Last weekend Cheltenham sent two formidable squads to represent in both the Men and Women's event.

The Men found themselves in a tough group for the morning's games but made solid improvements in their games throughout. The squad worked incredibly hard for each other all over the field, rolling with the hard hits and executing all the captains asked of the players.

The highlight of the day was holding the eventual winners of the tournament Mellor to a tight 1-goal game with Cheltenham causing frustration within the Mellor camp with the thought of an impending upset.

Captain Guy Oldring had very positive feedback from the day: 'A fantastic day of lacrosse and I'm super proud of the team... the vibe was an absolute pleasure to be around.' A sign of good things to come this season!

And as if having one squad having a good day wasn't enough... the women went and WON the whole tournament!!

Coaches Lydia and Mollie have spent the last few months of summer training working towards this tournament as in the past the Women's side have struggled with the pace of 8s and the hard work clearly paid off.

An undefeated day finished with a tough game against the host's Bath; Cheltenham were up 2 -1 heading into the final minutes of the game when a yellow card was awarded meaning Cheltenham had to play a player down. Keeping calm and staying strong meant Bath were unable to capitalise on this and Cheltenham stayed ahead taking home the long-sought after title of Bath 8s champions!

A massive well done to all our players on both squads, a fantastic start to the season!
